Hi — I point a camera at the dark.

I'm an amateur astrophotographer shooting from a suburban backyard. Most nights the target is a faint smudge that takes several sessions to build into anything worth looking at — which is most of the appeal.

The site

Every image here lists the full acquisition data: what it was shot with, how many sub-exposures went into it, and how long the total integration ran. If you're working on the same object, that's usually the information you actually want, so it's on every page rather than buried in a caption.

Processing

Calibrated with darks, flats and bias frames, stacked, gradient-removed, then stretched and colour-balanced. I try to keep the result honest — the goal is what the sensor genuinely recorded, brought up to where the eye can see it, not an invention.
